The Enchanted Hour: The Miraculous Power of Reading Aloud in the Age of Distraction by Meghan C. Gurdon - Reading aloud to children, both as a teacher and a parent, has provided me with some of the most enjoyable time that I have ever experienced. Gurdon’s book describes, with passion and the authority, the seemingly endless benefits of this simple practice. “For everyone, reading aloud engages the mind in complex narratives; for children, it’s an irreplaceable gift that builds vocabulary, fosters imagination, and kindles a lifelong appreciation of language, stories and pictures”. Convincing research and practical advice are presented in a readable, encouraging way. (Harper, January 2019)
