Unit 2 Session 11: Letter to Teachers: Using a Partner to Hear More Sounds in Words
Today your students will again work with their partners, focusing on stretching out words and getting more sounds in each. They’ll have their partner attempt to read their work, and stop at any words that are hard to read to fix them up. They’ll likely continue this work on their own after the work with their partner.

Unit 2 Session 11: Readers Use Their Voices to Bring Books to Life
Today your students will head off to do their reading and it might be helpful for them to not only have books but songs and poems too. This way they can practice using all their powers to make their reading come to life. Some students may find more success by starting with a poem or song that naturally comes to life as they read it (this will also help prepare them for tomorrow’s lesson). Don't worry if all they have are books, because they can and should do this important work inside those too!

Unit 2 Session 12: Putting It Together: How to Make Readable Writing
Today your students will look back over all of their writing. They’ll take stock and think about all that they have learned about making their writing easy to read. Then, they’ll think of ways they can improve their writing and will spend time going through past pieces to make them even better. They might focus on spelling, spaces, or punctuation, and will go through multiple previous pieces as they make changes.

Unit 2 Session 12: Readers Use the Pattern to Sing Out Their Books
Today your students will benefit from different types of texts. By having poems and songs and chants and books, they can really practice this skill. They can do this work by using the pattern, or the words that repeat across the song or poem or pages of a book, and sing those parts out! This will help them use their reading voices to bring their books to life in a stronger way.

Unit 2 Session 13: Writers Search Their Mental and Drawn Pictures to Make Their Stories Better
Today your students will go back to at least one story they had written previously and revise—which will usually mean adding more. They’ll add details into the pictures and words to make the story even better. They might use fun revision tools, like special colored pens. Some students will likely revise two or three pieces while others might revise one and then start a new piece.

Unit 2 Session 13: Readers Use Punctuation to Figure Out How to Read
Today your students will practice looking for clues inside their texts. These punctuation clues will help them figure out how the parts of their songs or poems or books want to be read. By using these important clues, they can bring their reading to life even more!

Unit 2: Reading Super Powers
Reading with Print Strategies and Sight Word Power
This unit is organized into 3 bends:
Bend I Using Super Powers to Look and Point, and Then Read Everything
In Bend I the students have been introduced to the idea that all readers have super powers to help & guide them while they are reading. We have been focusing on our "pointer power".
The children will be asked to activate their "pointer power" as they...
-read familiar texts
-use one-to-one matching
-tap each word, just once
-check that their reading makes sense
-point to words they know in a SNAP!
Bend II Taking on Even the Hardest Words
We are currently working in Bend II. In this bend the students will activate ALL of the super reading powers that they have learned thus far (pointer power, reread power, & partner power). These powers will be helpful as the students navigate how to take on even the hardest of words. They will learn that at times (just as true superheroes do) they will run into trouble with their reading. Things will get hard! But that they are TOUGH and have all the power within them to get the job done! The students will be introduced to picture power, snap word power, sound power, and persistence power. They will also explore how to turn more words into words they will know in a SNAP!

MATH
Eureka Module 2: Two-Dimensional and Three-Dimensional Shapes
In Module 2, students learn to correctly name 2D and 3D shapes regardless of their orientation, size, or variation. Kindergarten students will transition from classifying and identifying shapes by how they look (e.g., “It’s a rectangle because it looks like a door.”) to more precise descriptions based on mathematical attributes (e.g., “It’s a rectangle because it has four straight sides and no openings.”).

WORD WORK
Unit 2: Word Scientists
There are three primary goals for the children in this unit: letter knowledge and letter-sound correspondence, phonological awareness, and high frequency words.
WE ARE KINDERGARTEN WORD SCIENTISTS!
Bend I Studying the Alphabet and the Alphabet Chart
We are currently studying Bend 1 of this unit. The children are studying the alphabet linking chart while noting keywords and their corresponding letters. They will examine upper and lowercase letters, and share their observations. They will practice the alphabetic principle, where they will connect and grow their letter-sound knowledge. We will explore more in-depth with letter formation and the differentiation between upper and lowercase letters. Lastly, the children will investigate the alphabet chart by discussing the similarities and differences that they discover, and even design their very own!
