Writer's Workshop: Unit 3 Session 1

Writers study the kind of writing they plan to make. Before a writer writes he/she thinks "what kind of writing am I making?" and then studies examples of different writing. Ex: Narrative or How To

 


Word Study Unit 3 Session 2 :

Using snap words and stretch words to write. Children write sentences using snap words and they will stretch out and write the all the sounds of the words they don't know how to spell.

Objective: Match and count to compare two sets of objects. State which quantity is less.

Reader's Workshop:  Unit 3 Session 2: Readers Use Patterns to Help Them Read Almost Every Page

Objective: Today your students will read their books and be on the lookout for patterns in their books.When they find a pattern, students will likely work to carry that pattern across the pages of their books.

Students will be introduced to the sight word "WE". Students will read and highlight the word "WE" and read the story In the Winter.

Reader's Workshop: Unit 3 Session 3 Readers Figure Out the Changing Words in the Pattern

Objective: Today your students will read their books thinking about what stays the same and what changes. Then they will use the first letter of the changing/unknown word and check the picture to help them solve the word.

Writer's Workshop Session: Unit 3 Session 2: 

Writers Use What They Already Know: Touching and Telling the Steps Across the Pages

Objective:  Today your students will choose to either fix up their how-to books from Session 1 or will write a new how-to book. They’ll think of an idea, touch and tell their steps across pages, sketch, and then write in their booklet.

Reader's Workshop: Unit 3 Session 4: Readers Use All of Their Super Powers to Read Pattern Breaks in Books

Objectives: Today your students will study pattern breaks in books. They will review their super powers and remember to use them especially when they notice a pattern break in their books. Students will then likely lean on their knowledge of phonics to read across the words that are not part of the pattern.

Sight Word Poem:  Review sight word "What Do Kids Like " Find the Poem HERE. 

Writer's Workshop: Unit 3 Session 3: Writers Become Readers, Asking, “Can I Follow This?”

Objective: Today your students will reread their how-to writing, thinking about anything that is not quite right and fixing it up. Then they’ll read their writing out loud to a partner, whether it is someone at home, a writing partner from class, or even a stuffed animal, thinking about if the steps are easy for the partner to follow. If not, they will try to fix it up to make it clearer.

Phonics Session 3: Writers take Risks Writing all the sounds in long words.

Children will write labels for common objects in the classroom. Students will work together to make sure labels can be read.
