Writer's Workshop: Unit 3 Session 4: 

Writers Answer a Partner’s Questions Today your students will continue the work of revising their how-to books for clarity. They’ll act out the steps in their book, either solo or with a partner, and see if there is anything that proves confusing. They will likely add a page or sentences on existing pages to be even more detailed and clear in their writing.

Word Study Unit 3 Session 4 :

Hearing and Recording More Sounds in Words Today your students will help the teacher write a letter to Reader Man by stretching out the words, listening for each sound.

Reader's Unit 3: Session 5 Readers Check Their Reading Today your students will read their books remembering to use all of their super powers. Once they have solved a tricky word they will check that their attempt looks right by checking that the letters match and makes sense.

Word Study: Unit 3 Session 5
Using Our Writing Superpowers to Edit and Celebrate Our Written Work
Today students will help the teacher get her writing read to share in a celebration, reading each word carefully and adding in any sounds that were left out. Then students will do the same work in a piece of their own writing, checking that they have all the sounds in their words and checking for other things that will make their writing easy for someone to read.

Writer's Workshop Unit 3 Session 5 Writers Label Their Diagrams to Teach Even More Information

Today your students will likely add in a diagram to their how-to books, thinking of specific details they could draw and label that help make their writing even more clear. They can do this in as many pieces as they’d like, spending a few minutes on each piece, or focus on one book and adding details across pages. 

Reader's Unit 3 Session 6 Readers Use the Pattern and the Ending to Understand Their Books

Today your students will read their books using all of their reading powers, making sure to check that their reading makes sense. When they get to the end of their books, they will use the pattern and the ending to think about what the whole book was about and share that with someone (or pet or stuffed animal).

Reader's Unit 3 Session 7 Activating Sound Power Right Away

Today your students will warm up with an alphabet chart, practicing saying the sounds as soon as they see the letters. Then they will read a book, making the initial sounds of words pop out of their mouths when they approach them. It may be helpful for students to have an alphabet chart nearby.

Today students will listen for the word parts –at and –in in different words and help the teacher make lots of words using these parts. Students will write these words on their own paper.

Today your students will come up with more and more ideas for how-to books and will create covers for them. They will think through their day or things they love to do and find ideas from their regular activities. They might choose to write more on one of their topics, but will spend the majority of their time making covers to use in later sessions.
