Writer's Workshop:   Unit 4 Session 8 Studying a Mentor text

Objective: Students will learn the writers read ad study the work of other writer and they try to incorporate what they have learned.

 

Word Study:   Phonics Unit 4 Session 11 Using interactive writing to build ownership and support transfer

You are responsible for using your vowel power. It is important to try your best to listen for the vowel sound in every word, then use your vowel power to think about what vowel you should write.

Today your students will engage in an interactive writing session where you’ll coach them to listen for the medial sound in target words, then think about which vowel they should write.

Readers Workshop: Reader's Unit 4 Lesson 12 Falling In Love with Topics
Today students will learn that once an avid nonfiction reader finds a topic that he or she loves, the reader gathers books on that topic, and gathers people who love that topic, too. Then avid nonfiction readers are as happy as pigs in mud!

Word Study:  Phonics session 4 session 12  Making new words by changing vowels and other letters

Objective: When your vowel power gets really strong, you can make tons of words. You'll find that, by just changing the vowels in words, you can do amazing things, like turn big into beg or even bug.

Today your students will practice making words. By repeatedly changing a single letter in one word to make a new one, they will make an armful of words.

Today your students will read a special invitation from Mabel. They will clap syllables and confirm that each syllable has a least one vowel. At the end of the session, they will do the same thing with a special name.
