Melody Morton's Classroom: About Me

Welcome to our 5th grade class! I worked as an assistant at Atkinson Academy for a few years and then transferred to Salem in search of a teaching career. I started in the school district as an assistant in 5th grade at Soule school. I then did a long-term sub position in 2nd grade at Soule. In 2014, I was hired to teach 4th grade at Soule for 1 year before moving over to Fisk. I taught 4th grade for 5 years and moved up to 5th grade afterwards. I got married in the summer of 2019. In 2020-2021, I taught 50+ 5th grade students from all elementary schools remotely as I was pregnant with my first child. My family also bought a house in April of 2020. I had my son in February of 2021 and had 3 months off. I am now back teaching in-person and am so thankful to be with everyone-students, staff, and families-again. 

This is an excellent year to have the opportunity to learn and build various skills such as independence, self-advocacy, and take risks to become great leaders as well as role models for our school community. We will also strive to be respectful, responsible, and safe young adults every day as we also prepare to enter middle school. I am so excited for this school year and look forward to seeing the growth of each and every student!
