Georgia O'Keeffe Flowers
Georgia O’Keeffe was one of the first famous female artists in the world. Her artwork was large and colorful filled with oversized flowers, bones and images of New Mexico where she lived.
Students first learned about O’Keeffe and then had to lay out 1-3 flowers so large they are going off the paper in O’Keeffe style. Oil pastels were used to add color. The color guidelines were that flowers be warm colors to make them stand out and the background cool colors to make it recede.
Gyotaku means "fish rubbing". In ancient Japan fishermen would bring paper and ink on their boats and make a print (rubbing) of the fish they caught. It is still a tradition in Japan, but has also become a beautiful art form around the world.
