What is "open access" - information that is freely available on the internet.   There is a move towards in research towards publishing in open access portals and bypassing the traditional publishing route.  But - you need to be a critical user of information:

  • Who are the authors?  What are their professional affiliations/educational backgrounds?
  • Has it been peer reviewed?
  • Who funded the research?
