Assignments

Woodbury Art projects are based on the Elements of Art and include as many different media and as much choice as possible to engage student artists and help them to find something they enjoy and can succeed with. Below you can find examples of our current project.

Line Landscape

  • Students build on their knowledge of the 5 basic types of lines from 6th grade and explore zentangle patternmaking. Students discuss the elements of a landscape (background, middle ground & foreground) and create a landscape of their own design. They then fill in the sections with different unique line patterns and finish with color.

Shape: Stop Motion Animation

  • Students build on their knowledge of organic and geometric shapes and learn about the Art of Stop Motion Animation. With partners, they create their own story, characters, set and props out of paper and film their own videos. Please see our online gallery on Artsonia to view examples of student videos.

Space: 1 Point Perspective

  • Students build on their knowledge of 1 point perspective and create a drawing of a 3-dimensional room, complete with windows, doors, furniture and creative fantasy elements of their own design.

Choice Based: Emotion

  • Students learn about the process of a choice based project, which gives them the freedom to determine their own vision and materials for a given theme. Students pick an emotion to illustrate and use colors, symbols, lines, shapes and forms to convey a that emotion.

Choice Based: Illustrative Song Lyrics

  • Students learn about the process of a choice based project, which gives them the freedom to determine their own vision and materials for a given theme. Students pick a line from a song and illustrate those lyrics using their knowledge of typography, hand lettering, and symbolism.

Form & Texture

  • Students build on their ceramics knowledge by learning about working with clay slabs to create a cylinder. They then attach creative elements to their cylinder by slipping & scoring and paint with tempera paint when dry to finish their piece.
