Word Study Procedures/Routines

CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES

Thursday: Students will prepare for Word Study by doing the following:

   1. Recycle old words

   2. Copy new words into planner.

   3. Tear out activity sheets for sort.

Friday: Students will meet with Word Study teacher to introduce new words and discuss principle(s) for the sort.

Students will complete various word study activities throughout the week during their Literacy Block.

Word Study Homework

STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE THEIR WORD STUDY HOMEWORK PACKET ON MONDAY AND IT IS DUE ON FRIDAY.

STUDENTS WILL ALWAYS HAVE THEIR WORDS WRITTEN IN THEIR PLANNERS. IF THEY LEAVE WORDS AT SCHOOL, OR CAN'T FIND THEIR WORDS, HOMEWORK CAN STILL BE COMPLETED USING THE WORDS IN THEIR PLANNER.

Monday - Sort and Record 3x each: Students sort words according to headers and record the words two times each.

Tuesday - Partner Sort/WS activity page

Wednesday - Sentences

Thursday - ABC order/ Recycle old words and prepare new words

Friday: New words/principle introduced; Sort and record
