This course provides a broad-based curriculum designed to include a range of learning activities associated with the graphic design industry. Students work in a professional design lab environment with access to high-end computers, Adobe CS software, digital press and plotter printing technology, vinyl banner construction, and other equipment relevant to project construction. All graphic design projects are industry standard and relevant to career success. Skills developed include learning correct technical composition, graphic design principles, graphic design codes, vector/photo manipulations, color theory, digital illustration, and typography. Software skills focus on Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Premier. Students will work on a variety of projects for both themselves and other clients in a team environment while building their portfolios.
GRAPHIC DESIGN 2

This is the second year of the Graphic Design program and will continue to focus on improving and enhancing the creativity and design skills of students. Advanced software skills and projects will be emphasized as students continue to develop their portfolios, solidify their career plans, and hone their collaborative and project management skills. Opportunities for job shadows and internships are encouraged. Prerequisite: C or better in Graphic Design 1 or permission of instructor.
Kristen Deveau, Graphic Design Teacher
Kristen Deveau joined Salem High CTE after 12 years of industry experience as a Graphic and UX (User Experience) Designer. Kristen has worked in many different industries from healthcare to technology, and on a variety of platforms ranging from mobile app design to commercial printing and embedded healthcare monitors. She has spent years focused on speech technology products and closing the gap between outdated digital designs and the technological expectations of today’s mobile devices. In her spare time, Kristen enjoys cooking, calligraphy, and spending time with her husband and two young children. She feels fortunate to have the opportunity to teach young people about the plethora of career pathways at their fingertips given an educational foundation in Graphic Design. Design is at the core of everything we use, touch and read and Kristen is enthusiastic about sharing that passion and industry experience with students. Graphic and UX design is a booming career path and Kristen is happy to have the opportunity to share her experience with her students.
