Meet your music teacher

What are we up to?

June 1-15

We are spending our last few weeks of music reviewing concepts and practicing our musical skills, while engaging in musicking together as a class!

May 3-28

We have spent a lot of time in music class learning about different types of rhythms and melodies. Now we are learning how we can hear them in the world around us, and seeing how we can make them ourselves!

April 12-23

Over the past few weeks, we have been learning about rhythm and melody as separate concepts. Now, we are beginning to combine them to make songs! Students will be creating their own songs on instruments using making a unique four beat combination of three pitches and two rhythmic values.

April 5-9

Students will be continuing to learn about melodies, specifically using do re and mi, and also working on writing quarter and eighth note rhythmic patterns!

March 22-April 2

For the next two weeks, students are composing their own melodies using the notes do, re, and mi, and playing them on instruments called boomwhackers!

March 15-19

This week in music we are talking about melodies and how we can create them using the musical notes do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, ti, and do! We will then create some of our own musical patterns using these notes.

March 8-12

This week in music we are going to be building on our concept of pitch, and talking about how we can make melodies! Students will be continuing to distinguish pitches, and stringing them together to create melodies using the Chrome Music Lab.

March 1-5

This week in music student's are being introduced to the concept of pitch! Pitch is how high or low a sound is. We will be talking about how we can make different pitches, and distinguishing between high and low sounds.

February 15-19

This week in music students are creating their own rhythms using the Chrome Music Lab, and practicing reading rhythms!

February 8-12

This week in music we are beginning to create our own rhythms using notation, and listening to how it sounds on different types of instruments!

January 25 - February 5

This week in music we are beginning to sort sounds based on syllables and use instruments to play simple rhythms!

January 11-22

This week in music we are beginning to read rhythms, and compose our own using iconic notation!

January 4-8

This week will be learning to distinguish between beat and rhythm!

December 21-22

This week we will be distinguishing between different dynamics and tempos with winter activities!

December 14-18

This week we will be using boomwhackers to play winter themed songs and talking about different notes which can make up melodies!

December 7-11

This week in music we are continuing to practice our concepts of dynamics and tempos using the Chrome Music Lab! Students are able to create and play with different musical ideas and apply the concepts we have been learning to their creations.

November 30 - December 4

This week in music we are continuing to learn about the concept of dynamics, or volume, in music. Each dynamic level has its own word. For example, the word for loud in music is forte, the word for soft in music is piano. This week we are exploring dynamics through a classical piece of music called The Surprise Symphony by Franz Joseph Haydn. We will move to, play along with, and draw to this piece of music to show how the dynamics change.

November 9-20

This week in music we are continuing to learn about the concept of dynamics, or volume in music! We are learning the Italian musical terms for these speeds (forte meaning loud, and piano meaning soft), and working to perform with, move to, and identify different dynamics in a variety of music. We are also creating our own music and trying it at different dynamics!

November 2-6

This week in music we are beginning to learn about the concept of dynamics, or volume in music! We are learning the Italian musical terms for these speeds (forte meaning loud, and piano meaning soft), and working to perform with, move to, and identify different dynamics in a variety of music.

October 13-30

We are continuing our study of tempo, or speed in music! We are learning the Italian musical terms for these speeds (presto meaning fast, and largo meaning slow), and working to perform with, move to, and identify different tempos in a variety of music.

October 5-9

This week in music we are beginning to learn about the concept of tempo, or speed in music! We are learning the Italian musical terms for these speeds (presto meaning fast, and largo meaning slow), and working to perform with, move to, and identify different tempos in a variety of music.

September 28 - October 2

This week in music class we are continuing to talk about the concept of steady beat. Students are learning how to distinguish steady beats, and performing them on their bodies and instruments!

September 21-25

This week in music class we are beginning to talk about the concept of steady beat. Students are learning how to distinguish steady beats, and how to create them!

September 2-18

Welcome to Music! Throughout the week both Kindergarten and First Grade classes will engage in "getting to know you" songs and games and practice moving in a safe way.
