2023 Salem Scramble is Saturday, Sept. 30

Registration is Full!

Get ready...this year's Scramble is coming soon. Students in grades 1-8 can register to traverse a challenging, age-appropriate course of 20 or more obstacles. Community organizations and businesses will adopt obstacles to support and cheer on nearly 500 Scramblers and others will offer games and activities for the entire family. This Salem Pride event brings together families, organizations, and business to celebrate what it means to be part of a connected community.

Racer Information

Arrival Time
Please plan to be at the Registration Tent no later than 30 minutes prior to your heat’s start time (see above). This will allow enough time to check-in, collect your bib and t-shirt(s), and arrive at the warm up corral when your heat is called.

Parking
ALL parking will be in the student parking area adjacent to the SAU building and on the north side of the high school. Please reference the course map for an overview of where to park and register.

Weather
This event is rain or shine and will be held unless conditions are deemed dangerous. That said, come prepared for the conditions. Racers will get wet and muddy even if the conditions are perfect. There will be a handwashing station at the finish line, but you may want to bring a change of clothes for racers before getting back into your car.

Vendors & Activities
You're welcome to come early and stay after your race to enjoy the many vendor and community service booths that will feature free items, games, food, and other activities.

Photos & Designated Watch Areas
Parents will be allowed to view and photograph their children from designated areas in the middle of the fields. Please do not go under taped areas of the course or interfere with racers. We also have EPP Sports joining the booth area offering optional photos of your racer.

Scramble Conclusion
The Scramble will conclude 30 minutes after the final heat or at approximately 1:00 p.m.

Vendor/Booth Information

Arrival Time
Vehicles will not be allowed into the Vendor Area until 8:00 am on Saturday, Sept. 30. Please use the access road between the high school and the Field of Dreams to load and unload tents, tables, chairs, etc.

Set Up Procedure & Time Frame
Please check in at the Vendor Tent when you arrive and proceed to your location. Volunteers will help direct you to the correct area. Vendors with vans, trucks, trailers will be in a separate section from tents.

All set up activity must be completed by 9:00 a.m. and all vehicles removed from the area. All tents/booths/vehicles must remain in the vendor area throughout the event--which is scheduled to conclude at 1:15 p.m.

Parking
Please park in the Field of Dreams parking lot or in the student parking lot at the other end of the high school. No parking will be available in the vendor area as in previous years.

Bring the Following
Please come with a 10x10 pop-up tarp or similar sized covering along with any tables, chairs, and activities as part of your booth. There will be no electricity or water available so please plan accordingly. Plan to be self-sufficient.

Weather and Conditions
Wind played havoc with tents during last year's event. Please plan to bring tent weights or means to keep your tent grounded on the asphalt surface.

 

Volunteer Information

Arrival Time
All-day volunteers should plan on checking in at the Volunteer Tent 8:45 am. You will receive instructions/directions and your event t-shirt. Volunteers (those on all-day or early shifts) should be in place at your obstacle no later than 9:15 a.m. The first heat is set to start at 9:30 a.m.

Volunteer Parking
Please park in the student parking area north of the Salem High School. See course map...

Obstacle Sponsors
Volunteers who are part of a sponsored obstacle will receive an email the week prior with information about their assigned obstacle and any necessary instructions. Please check in at the Volunteer Tent to receive a printout of those and your Scramble t-shirt prior to heading to your assigned obstacle.

General Volunteers
Volunteers not part of a sponsored obstacle should check in at the Volunteer Tent to receive your assignment and Scramble t-shirt.

Prepare for Weather
Volunteers at obstacles will be exposed to the weather that day, please bring appropriate clothing and protection.

Duration/Timelines
Those volunteers assigned to obstacles on the Grade 3-8 extension will remain at obstacles until approximately 11:50 a.m. These volunteers can assist in clean up and return of obstacle items to the parking lot.

Main course volunteers can expect obstacle coverage to run through approximately 1:15 p.m or until the final grade 1-2 runner passes. Assistance in clean up, break down, and return of obstacle elements is appreciated at this time.
