Registration is required for new students

The English for Speakers of Other Languages Program is designed for non-native speakers of English ages 18 plus and who are not enrolled in school.  The instructional focus is on providing students the opportunity to speak, listen, read, and write English.  Students will work at their own level and have multiple opportunities to practice their language skills.  

English classes are free and open to New Hampshire residents or employees only.  Registration and English proficiency assessments are required.

  • Keep your English communication current this summer. Freshen your vocabulary with essential expressions and bring new energy to your conversation skills. Join us as we explore trending topics in this interactive class.

    6 Wednesdays, 10:00-11:30 am, July 8-August 12, 2026, SHS-Room A160.  Instructor: Colette Gavin

  • This class offers students the opportunity to practice speaking English with native speakers in a relaxed and friendly setting.  Students will have fun talking about many different topics, reading and discussing short stories, and playing games that help improve their English skills.

    5 Wednesdays, 6:00-7:00 pm, July 15-August 12, 2026, SHS-Room A160.  Instructor: Lyne Horseman

To register:  New Hampshire Bureau of Adult Education

  1. Upon registration, you will be contacted by a staff member in the Continuing Education office to discuss your goals and  the expectations of the course. 
  2. New students to the program will be asked to take a Reading Placement test (Part 1 and Part 2).  This helps us to understand your current level and to place you in the best class. 
  3. Once you complete the remote Reading Placement tests, you will receive information about accessing the class.

 

Note: Remote testing requires Google Chrome. To download and install the latest version of the Chrome browser, go to Google Chrome. The Placement test will not work on Safari, Firefox or Internet Explorer.
